We are pleased to announce that we have a new Executive Director, Celia Flye.
We have operated as an all-volunteer organization since our inception, but because of our incredibly generous community, we have grown to the point that we need a full-time Executive Director. We found that in Celia. Our first employee and first Executive Director has a 20-year career in nonprofit administration, philanthropy, advocacy and public relations. Celia will continue to advance the mission of the Friends in support of Fairfax County’s homeless animals.
As many of you know, a few concerned citizens and animal lovers who recognized the need for more funding for the animals at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter formed the Friends in 2006. Our first event, Cinco-de-Meow, was a hit, and after just one year, we had raised $10,000 towards the care of homeless animals in Fairfax County. In 2016, we raised over $300,000.
Recently the Fairfax County Animal Shelter became an independent agency, driving the need for increased support from us. To continue on our successful path and ensure long-term sustainability, the Board of Directors recognized the need to bring in a seasoned non-profit professional. The Board held a nationwide search for an Executive Director, finding the perfect fit here in Northern Virginia. Celia will work towards growing our Board of Directors and attracting more supporters to help propel the Friends forward, increasing our ability to provide more care to all shelter animals and offer more programs to help homeless animals find their forever homes.
Celia comes to the Friends with all boxes checked — including a love of animals. She lives in Vienna with her children, Emma and Chloe, as well as her four-legged rescued children: cats Chrysanthemum and Nancy and her bully-mix Max.
Please join us in welcoming Celia Flye to the Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
