Baby Girl was days away from being adopted when the unthinkable happened. While waiting for her forever home, she injured herself in her run at the shelter. She was found in severe pain and unable to stand. Staff rushed her to the vet where it was discovered that the little puppy had a fractured hind leg. If her leg was to be saved, she would need complicated and expensive orthopedic surgery within hours. Fortunately, by partnering with the Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter (FFCAS) the shelter was able to get Baby Girl the medical attention she needed. Her leg was repaired, and after a few weeks in foster care this young pup will have her chance at a new life in a permanent and loving home.
"Thanks again for turning this around so quickly. The vet said we had 48 hours to help this pup and [FFCAS] helped us move mountains in a matter of hours!"
When Panda came to the shelter, she was all alone and unweaned. She also suffered from a severe upper respiratory infection and coccidia, an intestinal ailment. Due to her fragile condition, she required months of care in the home of a foster volunteer. Because Panda's medical treatments were covered by the FFCAS, she was able to be adopted into a wonderful home and is now a very happy little girl!
Edmond had a stubborn eye infection which required long-term treatment. Thanks to funding from the FFCAS, this great kitty recovered and now has a wonderful new home. His new mom is thrilled to have Edmond as her new companion:
“I hope you will enjoy the attached picture and know what a valuable role you played in [Edmond's] happiness and contentment.”
Eddie was gravely ill after a rock he swallowed became lodged in his digestive track. Unable to afford the life-saving procedure, he desperately needed and with Eddie near death, his family had little choice but to sign him over to the shelter. With help from the FFCAS, Eddie was able to get the surgery to remove the obstruction. Within weeks, he was good as new and found a new loving home — and a second chance at life.
Each year, dozens of exotic animals and reptiles are taken in at the shelter. One includes Sebastian, a semi-aquatic turtle. Kept for years in an unhealthy environment, Sebastian was suffering from a shell condition and a calcium deficiency. FFCAS acted quickly to provide the shelter with proper housing, lighting and supplies to ensure Sebastian's unique needs were met. Within weeks, he began to recover and was adopted.

We're very grateful to all the donors who have supported our efforts. The animals thank you, too!
